About us
[Project]
We’re here to create more than just a workplace. Think of it as a community-slash-living space where human connections matter as much as the code. Yes, we dig into the darkest depths of tech—but we do it together.

Our principles
We try to do business ethically. And we admit we’re not perfect (shocking, we know).
Becoming a giant corporation? Hard pass. We’d rather be sharp, effective, and human.
We’re building something European, with European values, right here in Hungary—and we’re sticking together as a community while doing it.
Maximizing profit isn’t our obsession. Helping partners tackle everyday chaos in business, IT, and finance—that’s more our vibe.
Short-term flings? Not our style. We’re in it for the long haul, like actual decades-long partnerships.
Our journey – the beginnings
So, back in 2016 Budapest, two guys named Gergely and Zsombor thought it would be a brilliant idea to start a company in Hungary.
But not just any IT company. Nope. They went all in on the super-niche, wildly exciting world of… software quality assurance. Yeah, we know, it doesn’t sound like the sexiest thing on earth, but trust us—it matters. A lot.
Their plan? Keep companies from releasing buggy software that makes users scream at their screens (and occasionally at their pets). Zsombor geeked out on the technical stuff and built the team, while Gergely worked his magic with the business side.
Fast forward to 2017 and—plot twist—we landed HBO as our first big client. Yes, that HBO. Our testers spent the next four years making sure HBO Go actually, well, worked. (You’re welcome, binge-watchers.)😉
Old friend, new shareholder, people-whisperer.
Then Balázs showed up. He turned our outsourcing into an actual department instead of, you know, a vague idea on a Post-it note.
By the end of 2022, we weren’t just a couple of friends with a dream anymore. We had a full crew of 30 software testers. Many of them caught their very first bugs here with us (no actual bugs were harmed, only virtual ones).
Oh wow, you can do that too? Yes, we can.
After six years of doing the whole “testing” thing really well, we thought: why stop there?
So we launched an Automation department. UiPath was our first playground, where we gathered a bunch of RPA wizards who started automating stuff faster than you can say “robotic process automation” (if you can actually say that three times in a row, congrats).
Turns out, it worked. Big time. Suddenly we were not just catching bugs but also building full-on digital projects that made our clients go, “Oh wow, you can do that too?” Spoiler: yes, we can.
Then 2023 rolled in and brought Péter also long time close friend, inspirational partner and mastermind ally, with it. Not just Péter the guy, but Péter + his crew of loyal friends and colleagues. They didn’t just join us, they basically plugged straight into our culture like USB sticks (the good kind that actually work on the first try). Suddenly the office had new energy, new inside jokes, and a whole lot more coffee consumption. Thanks to them, we’ve now got a custom software development department that makes our service lineup look like a full-on digital buffet—something for every taste, and yes, always room for seconds.

Up to new challenges
Expanding across borders sounded scary… until we did it. Now we’re hanging out in Vienna, not only for the coffee, the schnitzel, or the concerts (though, let’s be honest, those help), but because we teamed up with Philip Kügler—a tech pro, advisor, and basically a local IT rockstar. Together we created MerkIT FlexCo, which sounds very fancy, but really just means: we’re officially in Austria, helping partners with testing and innovation. And yes, it feels good to swap “expansion plans” on a slide deck for actual train tickets and new collaborations. Vienna isn’t just a new market for us—it’s a second home base for building cool digital stuff with even more great people.

And about that “community” thing
Since day one, we’ve been more than just a company. We’re the type of place where people celebrate new babies, stick around through rough times, and cheer on each other’s fresh starts. A mosaic of people who actually like working together (most days). Call it a team, a family, or just a bunch of humans trying to build cool digital stuff while having each other’s backs.
And honestly, that sense of community is what makes all the long hours, big challenges, and endless cups of coffee worth it. It’s the glue that keeps us moving forward—together.
Zsombor Szendrey – CEO
I’ve spent over 10 years in IT management and business leadership, which basically means I’ve seen a lot of systems break and a lot of people scramble to fix them. As CEO of MerkIT, I try to keep things simple: deliver real business value through tailored IT solutions. Big-picture strategy when needed, hands-on problem-solving when it counts. I geek out on efficiency, innovation, and partnerships that actually last. When I’m not doing CEO things, you’ll probably find me testing out new tech for fun (yes, that’s my idea of recharging).

Peter Erdei – Head of Custom Development unit
Psychologist. Designer. Chaos-wrangler. My job is basically turning business spaghetti into clean, digital workflows that don’t make people cry.
I specialize in those awkward moments when someone says “uhh… we’re stuck” and flipping them into “oh, wait, this could actually work..” People are messy. Business is messier. Life is a total mess. (Seriously, if you’ve ever sat through a family dinner conversation about TikTok or ai, you know exactly what we mean)
At the end of the day, I just try to make business less overwhelming. Not perfect, not magic—just more usable, more human, and occasionally even fun.

Balázs Kiss – Head of Outsource Business Unit
Think of me as a talent broker for bug hunters. I lead MerkIT’s Outsource Business Unit, where we pair fast-growing companies with expert QA testers who can spot issues before customers do (and yes, they actually enjoy it). My job has two parts: find challenging, meaningful projects for our 30+ QA superheroes, and build partnerships with clients that last—whether you’re a scrappy startup or a massive enterprise with way too many acronyms.

Gergely Romhány dr. – Head of Business Development
By background, I’m part legal specialist, part IT nerd—basically someone who reads contracts and gets excited about RPA. For the past 15+ years I’ve worked on business development, strategy, venture building, and automation projects, and yes, I’ve won a few awards along the way (Best Newcomer, Innovation to Company—twice). When I’m not doing the whole “business leader” thing, I’m usually climbing something, windsurfing, or proving that Lego is not just for kids.

Philip Kügler – Managing Director of MerkIT Austria
I am a Managing Director, consultant, and project leader with more than two decades of experience at the intersection of technology, strategy, and people. My career has been shaped by guiding complex transformation projects in finance, government, and education technology, always with a clear focus on delivering practical, secure, and future-proof solutions.
I bring a strong technical foundation in IT security, system integration, and high availability, paired with a lean, hands-on management style. I like tackling challenges from both ends — shaping vision and structure on the strategic side, and then rolling up my sleeves to guide teams through execution.
What drives me most are people: building trust, connecting across cultures, and turning diverse groups into high-performing teams. My leadership style? Straightforward, empathetic, and steady — the kind that brings clarity even when the pressure’s on.
Technology changes fast, but I believe success comes from balancing expertise, adaptability, and human connection. That’s the mindset I carry into every project. (And yes, compared to some of my colleagues, I might come across as the “serious one” — but someone has to keep things grounded.)
